Epson Expression Home XP-5200 All-in-One Printer Review 2022

Epson Expression Home XP-5200 All-in-One Printer

Epson’s Expression Home XP-5200 All-in-One printer is in a home office thanks to its high-quality output, quick print speeds at default settings, and support for remote printing.

This high-performance, all-in-one solution offers exceptional image quality for stunning prints and borderless photos for all of your creative projects. Additionally, it features a simple installation process and a useful 150-sheet paper tray.

Brief Introduction

The name of the Epson Expression Home XP-5200 All-in-One Printer gives the impression that it is specifically targeted at home users. But if you don’t mind that its copying and scanning is restricted to one page at a time on a letter-size flatbed, its generous 150-sheet paper capacity makes it potentially suitable for a home office as well. For its $129.99 list price, it offers quick speed and impressively good output quality, and its features let you scan to the cloud, print from mobile devices, and even print remotely over the internet. All of this isn’t quite enough to make it our top pick for light-duty inkjet all-in-one printers for a home office, replacing the Brother MFC-J4335DW. But some users may prefer the XP-5200 because of its slightly improved photo quality and some additional features.

Mostly Solid Output Quality

Using a USB connection to our standard testbed PC, the XP-5200 demonstrated some remarkably fast speeds for its price in our performance tests. It printed our 12-page Word document at 15ppm (44 seconds), slightly faster than its rated 14ppm, just behind the MFC-J4335DW’s 16.1ppm (41 seconds), and significantly faster in actual use than the Canon Pixma G3260 (11.4ppm, or 58 seconds), which came in third place, and the Canon Pixma TR4720 (9ppm, or 1 minute and 12 seconds), which came in last.

The Epson and Brother printers also produced first pages out (FPO) more quickly than the two Canon models, which translated to finishing in the same order when including the first page. Again, the MFC-J4335DW took the top spot with 14.7ppm (49 seconds), followed by the XP-5200 with 13.8ppm (52 seconds), the G3260 in third with 10ppm (1:12), and the TR4720 trailing at 8.3ppm (1:27).

Our Verdict

The Epson Expression Home XP-5200 offers print, scan, and copy functions and allows standard document as well as borderless photo printing in up to 4800 x 1200 resolution.

Regarding photo quality, it falls short of the XP-5200. While its extras keep it firmly in place as our Editors’ Choice pick for the category, its lower running cost may or may not mean a lower total cost of ownership, depending on how much you print.
